During the weekend, Steam established a new record for simultaneous users, with the amazing amount of 27,942,036 users connected at the same time. According to Steam db, between 7 and 8 million users were playing several games during that window, being the first five counter-strike, data 2, PUBG: battlefields, apex legends, and GTA v. The rest of the users at that time were probably sailing on the site. It is not clear exactly why so many users went to Steam yesterday, but it is an incredible number, and says enough about the strength of Steam as a platform for games!
Of course, it is very possible that the festive weekend has had something to do with the interest increase of Steam. It is possible that many users have tried to take advantage of those last precious moments of play before returning to the office or school on Monday morning. That probably influenced something, but there is also the fact that the winter months leave many people with less entertainment options and there is much less competence of other activities. It simply shows how games can help so many people find fun ways to spend time!
As you advance 2022, it will be interesting to see when (or Si) Steam can overcome the number yesterday. It is possible that some of the most important launches of the year are in a new simultaneous record; Perhaps the main PC releases like Anglo de Elder or Star field could help you further increase that number! As Kodak points out, however, that the game more played yesterday had been available in Steam for quite some time. The newest game among the first five was apex legends, which was launched in 2019. Clearly, the new launches are not the only determining factor when it comes to numbers of concurrent users! For now, the interested parties will only have to wait and see what the future holds.
